Open source in the age of recession

I have been wondering for a while now how much of an impact Open source is going to make during the recession period.

I have seen that there are lot of jobs available in the Indian market for Open source software including Java and PHP. Is this a sign of things to come? It sure looks quite bright for the open source world.

The age old war between licensed software and open source software should be taken into a new level now with open source having a good advantage especially with companies looking to cut costs and save on IT spending. And this is also good for Open source analysts and freelancers to get together and collate their talents to offer services. That is a good business opportunity as I do see lot of SMEs and startups showing their feelers towards open source.

So will the real Open source people please stand up
